The Corpus Christi Police Department will be celebrating National Night Out on October 4, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m. in your neighborhood. Chief Troy Riggs has declared this day as “Everybody Day” and all command staff will be attending National Night Out events. At 4:00 pm, we will be kicking off National Night Out at the HEB located at 3500 Leopard. The community is invited to attend.

National Night Out is a unique crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National association of Town Watch. Neighborhood on Watch groups will join forces with thousands of other communities all over Texas to: heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participate in local anti-crime programs, strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships, and send a message to criminals letting them know that neighbors are organized to fight crime through community awareness.

Be a part of National Night Out and turn your lights on for Texas’s Night Out Against Crime!

Please register your event with Crime Prevention Advisors Imelda Benavides and Brenda Rodriguez at 361-886-2765. The following is a list of scheduled events in your neighborhood.

9-11 Tribute Honoring Coastal Bend First Responders

In memory of the 10th anniversary of September 11, 2001, Chief of Police Troy Riggs has announced the first annual Patriot 5K Fun Run/Walk.  The event honors all of those in uniform who are first to respond in times of emergency, including all present and past members of the Armed Forces, Police Officers, Firefighters and Paramedics, Sheriff’s Deputies, Department of Public Safety Troopers, Constable’s Officers, and State and Federal Officers.

The Patriot 5K Fun Run & Walk will take place Saturday, September 10, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. at Sherrill Park, 222 S. Shoreline.  The event is sponsored by Citizens in Support of the CCPD, a not-for-profit foundation whose mission is to create a safer Corpus Christi by strengthening the bond between the Corpus Christi Police Department and the citizens it serves.

Other sponsors include Ed Hicks Mercedes Nissan & Infinity, Bay Ltd., H.E.B., Stripes, CITGO, and the Corpus Christi Police Officer’s Association.  Entry fees have been covered by the sponsors and participants will receive, t-shirts, sports towels, and water bottles, until the items run out.

A 9-11 tribute ceremony will take place at 7:45 a.m. and will include the Corpus Christi Veteran’s Band and the Patriot Guard Riders.  The Patriot 5K Fun Run/Walk honorary starter will be Lieutenant General Marc Cisneros, U.S. Army, Retired.

Participants are also encouraged to bring along any tattered or torn American Flags.  A local Boy Scout who is working on becoming an Eagle Scout will exchange American Flags for free and retire the older ones properly.

CCPD Launches On Line Reporting System

The Corpus Christi Police Department is proud to announce yet another convenient method to file certain types of police reports. This web based reporting system will allow the public to file Lost Property, Theft from a Vehicle, Theft, Vandalism, and Vandalism to a Vehicle reports directly and immediately online.

We believe that our web based reporting option will allow officers in the field more time to focus on in progress calls and preventative patrols while allowing citizens another option to receive police service via the internet.

The service will allow the public to file a report at a time that is best for them without having to wait for an officer to respond or the Telephone Reporting Unit to call back.

In order to file a report, the crime or loss must have occurred within the City of Corpus Christi, the individual must be 17 years of age, and the total value of the crimes must be less than $1,500.  The public will be able to print a temporary copy of the report immediately upon submission. They will be issued a number that they can provide to their insurance company at that time.

The report will then be reviewed by police personnel and once approved, the reporting party will receive an e-mail attachment of the official police report free of charge. The report will be transferred into the Corpus Christi Police Department’s records management system and receive the same statistical analysis as if the report had been filed by a police officer.

The On Line Reporting Link is available and can be accessed via the link.    It is available in English with the Spanish version becoming available with the next few months.  The $27,000 cost of this On Line Reporting system was purchased from federally seized drug funds.

CCPD Business Summit

On Thursday, August 18th, 2011, the Corpus Christi Police Department will host its second Business Summit at the Del Mar Economic Development Center located at 3209 S. Staples. Corpus Christi businesses encounter theft, credit card abuse and identity theft on a daily basis.

Our businesses also face the threat of a devastating natural disaster during hurricane season. The purpose of the Summit is to bring together business owners and managers to share information to better protect themselves against these types of incidents. Topics presented by expert speakers include theft prevention, disaster preparation and identity theft.
