At approximately 3:29 am on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, a Corpus Christi Police Department Officer was responding to a call when he observed smoke and embers blowing in the area.  The officer was able to locate an active fire at a business located on the 5200 block of Weber.

It was determined that the fire originated in the back patio of the location and Fire Investigators later determined that the fire was set intentionally. 

Investigators are looking to identify a person of interest in the video and still image.  If you recognize the individual in the photo, please call Crime Stoppers.

Corpus Christi Police Investigators would like help from the public to locate a missing person.

Babe Nobblen was reported missing by family members on February 27, 2023.  Babe was last seen at an apartment complex located on the 2200 block of N Padre Island Drive on or about February 26, 2023.  

Babe is described as a 21-year-old black  female who stands 4 feet 11 inches tall, weighs approximately 165 pounds, with multi-color hair and brown eyes.  Babe is also known to wear eyeglasses, as seen in the photo.  

Babe was last known to be attempting to travel to either San Antonio, Texas or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; but she may still be in the Corpus Christi area.

Meet Your CCPD

Mary Ann Leal is originally from Harlingen Texas and worked with the Harlingen Police Department for 4 years as records clerk. In 1989 Mary Ann moved to Corpus Christi and began a job at the Nueces County Appraisal District as a data entry clerk.

Mary Ann began her career with the Corpus Christi Police Department in 1990 when she was hired as a clerk typist where she worked for the next three years. Since 1990 Mary Ann has held several different positions with the Corpus Christi Police Department. She has worked as a dispatcher, payroll/management aide in Dispatch, a Central Records clerk focused on Public Information Act, appointed by Chief Simpson as a management aid in Administration, and she currently works as a management assistant with the Traffic Division filing misdemeanor driving while intoxicated cases with the District Attorney’s Office.

Two juveniles arrested for the murder at 2700 Guadalupe

On February 19, 2023, at 4:11 am dispatch received a call that a male had been shot and that he was being transported to the hospital.

Officers responded to the hospital and arrived as the 23-year-old victim was being dropped off. The officers were able to speak to the occupants of the vehicle and found that one of the rear seat passengers had been shot after they had circled the 2700 block of Guadalupe a couple of times.

As the officers canvassed the area, they were able to locate several casings and a handgun. At this time, no offender has been identified.

The 23-year-old male victim went into surgery but succumbed to his injuries.  

On February 21 at approximately 4:09 pm detectives and directed patrol officers were following up on the recent murder that occurred in the 2700 block of Guadalupe.

 As directed patrol officers arrived, they observed three males at the scene of the homicide who then began running when they saw the police. The officers chased and were able to detain the three males. Upon further investigation, evidence of the crime was located at the scene.

Detectives arrested two sixteen-year-old males for murder and transported them to the Nueces County Juvenile Justice Center. The third male was not charged.

educator arrested

Offense: Solicitation Prostitution, Improper Relationship between Educator & Student, and Sexual Assault of a Minor

On February 17, 2023 at 1:09 pm the Corpus Christi Police Department was notified of an investigation being conducted by school administrators in the 4000 block of Wildcat in Corpus Christi reference to a substitute teacher having an inappropriate relationship with a student off campus.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division Robbery Homicide section quickly began to investigate the incident, interview victims, and school administrators. The detectives determined that a crime had been committed and secured a warrant of arrest for 22-year-old Anthony Schultz.

Anthony Schultz was placed into custody and booked into the City Detention Center on the charges of Solicitation of Prostitution $200,000.00 bond, Improper Relationship between Educator & Student $200,000.00 bond, and Sexual Assault of a Minor $200,000.00 bond.

At 4:46 PM on Monday, February 13, 2023, officers were dispatched to 4900 block of Ayers in reference to a shooting.   All involved parties had left the scene prior to officers arrival.  Officers investigated and were able to  locate a crime scene at the location.  

A short time later a shooting victim arrived at a local hospital.  The 19-year-old victim was transported to a local hospital by a third party, he later succumbed to his injuries.  

Through their investigation, Homicide Detectives followed up on several leads and were able to identify two suspects.  On Monday, February 13, 2023, Detectives were able to secure an arrest warrant for 39-year-old Benjamin Peña for Murder ($500,000 Bond) and for 18-year-old Devin Peña for Murder ($500,000).  

At approximately 10:54 am on Thursday, February 16, 2023, Officers with the US Marshals Gulf Coast Violent Offender Fugitive Task Force gathered information on the whereabouts of Benjamin Peña and Devin Peña.  Officers assigned to our Directed Patrol Unit assisted by conducting a traffic stop at the intersection of Cosner and Mahan and were able to take both males into custody, without incident.   

Benjamin Peña And Devin Peña were transported to the main station to be interviewed and were later transported to the City Detention Center for processing.
