*SKIMMER ALERT*

Three credit card skimmers were discovered and seized over the weekend. All three skimmer devices were located by attentive convenience store clerks or customers on the automatic teller machines that were located inside convenience stores on the south side of town, 5900 block of S.P.I.D., 4700 block of S.P.I.D., and 3800 block of Rodd Field Road.

All three of the devices were “overlay” type devices that were custom made to quickly attach to specific makes and models of ATM’s with double stick tape.  All three of the devices contained memory cards, download ports, and an integrated pinhole camera that was aimed at the keypad to capture the PIN that was entered during the transaction.

It is unknown at this time how long these devices have been in place and there exists the possibility that other devices are currently in place at other locations in our city.  This is an ongoing investigation and we are reviewing video that was recorded inside these locations.

CCPD requests that local businesses check the ATM’s on their premises for any such devices.  We also recommend that consumers who use ATM’s carefully monitor activity on their accounts for fraudulent transactions.  Please report criminal activity to the Corpus Christi Police Department at 886-2600.

CORPUS CHRISTI DOCTOR ACCUSED OF SEXUAL ASSAULT

US Marshals, Law Enforcement Partners Help Bring Doctor-Turn-Fugitive to Justice

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — On May 31, U.S. Marshals and Texas authorities took custody of fugitive Jaime Sandoval, after he was located and arrested in El Salvador on May 16.
Sandoval is facing a charge of suspicion of sexual assault and for violating his bond conditions in Nueces County, Texas. He allegedly committed the sexual assault while practicing as a medical doctor in Corpus Christi.
Sandoval was to appear in court May 2, but he did not show up. Authorities issued an arrest warrant for the doctor-turn-fugitive on May 3. The Nueces County Sheriff’s Office then asked the U.S. Marshals-led Gulf Coast Violent Offender and Fugitive Task Force to assist in the manhunt.
The fugitive investigation for Sandoval gained momentum when authorities received a tip that led them to believe he was in San Salvador, El Salvador. U.S. Marshals coordinated with in-country authorities, who were able to locate and arrest Sandoval on May 16.
Sandoval is now in custody in the U.S. with no bond, awaiting extradition to Nueces County.
“The key to this case was teamwork, said Supervisory Deputy U.S. Marshal Norm Merkel of the Southern District of Texas. “By local, federal, and international partners working together, we got the job done.”
