National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 2-8

The theme of this year’s National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is “Strength. Resilience. Justice.”  This reflects a vision for the future in which all victims are strengthened by the response they receive, organizations are resilient in response to challenges, and communities are able to seek collective justice and healing.

Each year, more than 20 million people become victims of crime nationwide.  President Ronald Reagan established Crime Victims’ Rights Week in 1981 by executive order as part of an expanding initiative to provide services and outreach to crime victims, according to the release.

The public is invited and encouraged to come out and support crime victims by attending any or all of the events scheduled throughout the week.  CCPD Victim Assistance Program along with other local agencies and advocacy groups will be present to give information about the services available to crime victims.

In addition to showing support and raising awareness for crime victims; the aim is to also give an insight into the plight of victims, while highlighting the resources available to crime victims in our community.

If you or someone you love is in need of assistance, please contact the Corpus Christi Police Department Victim Assistance Program at (361) 886-2840.
