Off Duty Officer Arrested for DWI

On November 23, 2014 at approximately 4:24 a.m. an officer observed a tire and debris in the roadway just east of the JFK Causeway. He then came upon a single vehicle crash. The sole occupant of the vehicle, off-duty Corpus Christi Police Officer Billy Browning, #1145, was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.

Officer Browning was transported to Spohn Shoreline to be medically cleared for the accident. A blood draw was also performed by medical staff. He was then booked into the City Detention Center.

Officer Browning (7.29.1978) has been placed on Administrative Leave pending the outcome of a criminal and Internal Affairs investigation.

Officer Browning has been with the Corpus Christi Police Department since August 1999 and is assigned to the Patrol Division.

Homicide Suspect Arrested in Bee County

Corpus Christi Police responded to a complaint of a disturbance in which a man was stabbed on the 4200 block of Devon Street Friday night. Corpus Christi Police were called at 9:54pm and discovered a 29-year-old man with obvious injuries which the Officers said appeared to be stab wounds. The 29-year-old man was taken to the hospital for treatment for his injuries. The Officers found several witnesses to the crime and Detectives were summoned to gather information and evidence. Witnesses told Officers the suspect in this case is a heavy-set man with medium brown skin, brown eyes and black hair and left the scene in a silver car, possibly a Chevy Impala with chrome rims and blue lights in the undercarriage. The Detectives took the witnesses to the Police Headquarters to obtain recorded statements. The suspect in this case remains at large and the 29-year-old man was in surgery at the time of this report.

Tuesday evening Homicide Detectives were advised that the 29-year-old victim had died. On Wednesday morning detectives began working on a Murder warrant for Adan Nunez (9.10.1984).

On Thursday, Adan Nunez was arrested in Bee County by the US Marshals Task Force. He was detained in the Bee County Jail and is awaiting extradition to Nueces County.

 

Officer Involved Shooting

Date: November 9, 2014
Time: 4:46 p.m.
Location: 2030 Saratoga

Officers were dispatched to 2030 Saratoga for a disturbance. Upon arrival they heard yelling coming from within the building. A 37 year old male came out of the building with a gun in his hand. One of the three Officers at the scene shot the suspect twice. The suspect was taken to MMC and was being treated for his injuries at the time of this report. The female at the scene was not injured during the shooting.

The Officer is on Administrative Duty, as per policy, pending the investigation. None of the Officers at the scene were injured.

Detectives with the Criminal Investigation Division and Forensics Division will work this evening to gather more information and interview those present during the incident.

We will have a more detailed press briefing on Monday afternoon.

Police Find Young Man, Need Help Identifying Him – UPDATE

UPDATE: A citizen called in and gave us his information. He’s now home safe!

 

This evening a passerby called Officers for a young man who was walking near Sam Houston Elementary and seemed lost. Officers located him near the 1200 block of Logan. Officers are unable to communicate with him to find out where he lives. He is approximately 5’2, 180 lbs with blonde hair.

Local artist Patrick Richards of Architectural Details donated his talent in order to enhance the hallway leading into the MetroCom Communication’s Center. In April, Mr. Richards was contacted regarding National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week. Due to our telecommunicators’ dedication and hard work, Mr. Richards graciously agreed to complete the mural in an effort to reassure our appreciation of our MetroCom telecommunicators and beautify our work area. The mural displays the MetroCom’s Mission in order to remind our team of MetroCom’s principles and values on a daily basis.

Patrick Richards is President and Owner of Architectural Details. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art specializing in Advertising Graphic Design from Sam Houston State University in 1986. After traveling the world and working as an apprentice for the famous muralist Richard Haas, Mr. Richards was inspired to bring murals to the interior of people’s homes. In 1991 he began Architectural Details, established his studio, ArtPharm,  recruited a team of three artists, and has completed over 40 projects throughout Texas.

Mr. Richards will be available for the media at this event.

Arrest Made in Early Morning Homicide

On 09/07/14 at approximately 12:09 a.m. patrol received a call for a shooting at 2102 Stillman. Inside the apartment they found the victim, a 22-year-old male, with a gunshot wound to his head. Medics arrived and transported the victim to MMC. At approximately 2:32 a.m. he was pronounced dead.

Based on witness statements, Officers and Detectives were able to determine the suspect in the shooting. An arrest warrant was obtained for Richard Andrade (12.11.1984).

At 10:20 a.m. Andrade was arrested and taken to the City Detention Center where he was booked. Bond was set at $1,000,000.00

 

 

Animal Care Services Investigates Animal Cruelty Case

On or about Tuesday, March 18, 2014, Animal Care Services became aware of a female pit-bull named “Petey” that was unresponsive in her backyard.  The owner of the dog solicited assistance from a Facebook acquaintance and they took the dog to a local veterinarian. The vet recommended treatment, however the treatment exceeded the owner’s funds.  The owner then took the dog to a second veterinarian, however the dog died enroute.

During this process, the acquaintance posted the information and photos on an animal rights Facebook page, suggesting/alleging animal neglect/cruelty.  No person having actual contact with the animal officially reported the alleged neglect/abuse directly to the proper authorities (i.e. Animal Care Services or the Police Department) until the animal was at the veterinarian office and an email from a concerned citizen was sent to ACS management.

On Thursday, March 20^th, Animal Care Services obtained the remains of the dog and a necropsy was performed on Friday, March 21.  The veterinarian report indicated that the dog may have died of inadequate care.

Animal Care Services investigated this case and has now turned it over to CCPD Investigators for possible filing of criminal charges.

Robbery Victim Succumbs to His Injuries

 

On Sunday, March 16, 2014 at about 9:48 p.m., police were called to 600 N. Water St. in reference to a nature unknown injury call.  Police contacted Jose Blanco, age 41, who reported to police that he had been robbed in the downtown area.  Blanco was in need of medical attention for possible head trauma and was transported to Christus-Spohn Memorial Hospital for treatment.  Blanco’s condition continued to deteriorate and he died from his injuries on Monday, March 17, 2014.

Detectives have learned that Jose Blanco may have been assaulted sometime during the following time period in the downtown area:  From 11 a.m. Saturday, March 15 to about 9:48 p.m. on Sunday, March 16 

Jose Blanco was visiting Corpus Christi at the time of his death.  He was an Eagle Pass resident and was employed as a Constable with the Maverick County Constable’s Office.           

The Corpus Christi Police Department/Homicide Unit is requesting anyone with information about the Robbery or anyone who had contact with Mr. Blanco to call Crime Stoppers at 361-888-8477 or  Det. R.L. Garcia at (361) 886-2850.

Suspect Arrested in Aggravated Assault Case

Corpus Christi Police initiated an investigation for an aggravated assault on the 600 block of Texan Trail Thursday night. Corpus Christi Police responded to a call of a man who suffered obvious injuries and laid in the driveway to an apartment. Witnesses told Officers they heard an argument outside and then saw a 35-year-old man with injuries to his torso and legs. It is not known what caused the injuries and witnesses told Officers the man may have been struck by a vehicle. The 35-year-old man was taken to the hospital by ambulance and was listed by the hospital staff as in critical condition. Detectives were called to assist to gather information and evidence and continue to investigate this event.

On Friday March 21, 2014 Officers were able to obtain information that a disturbance had occurred and were given a name of a suspect. Officers located Lionel Coleman (3.22.1974) and arrested him for Aggravated Assault. He was booked into CDC.
