Out of an abundance of caution regarding the health of our community, we do not want to unduly expose any citizen unnecessarily to any health risk.
As a result, we have made the decision to cancel our 68-A Inspection that was scheduled for Wednesday, April 1, 2020. Future scheduled inspections will be re-evaluated as that date nears and an announcement will be made concerning them.
A Form VTR-68-A is an inspection conducted by a law enforcement officer to verify the identify of a vehicle for registration purposes. This inspection is often needed to obtain a bonded title, register a homemade trailer, register a vehicle that previously hasn’t had a title or other reasons.
The Corpus Christi Police Department does not require you to get a 68-A completed on your trailer, but the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles does. According to Texas Transportation Code 501.032, any item that was never assigned a VIN or item that the VIN has been lost, removed, or obliterated; must get one in order to register that item. In this case, that item is a trailer. The CCPD Auto Theft Task Force normally conducts the 68-A inspections on Wednesday mornings in order to assist the citizens of Corpus and surrounding counties with obtaining a VIN through TXDOT.
