On Sunday, December 29, 2019 officers were dispatched to the 5200 block of Weber for a shooting with injuries. When the officers arrived, they found the 29-year-old male victim unresponsive and began performing CPR. The victim was transported to the hospital by medics where he eventually succumbed to his injuries.
The Robbery/Homicide Section diligently investigated the case and on Wednesday January 8, 2020 were able to secure a Murder arrest warrant for 19-year-old Khalid Runnels. The Gang Unit immediately began to search for Khalid Runnels and located him at a residence on the 3900 block of Montego. The Gang Unit was able to apprehend Khalid, and he was transported to the City Detention Center for processing.
Khalid Runnels was charged with one count of Murder with a bond set at $250,000.
