OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING

At approximately 11:01 pm Corpus Christi Police Department Officers were dispatched to the 4300 block of Brentwood for a disturbance. The original call came in from a family member who was at a secondary location. Call notes provided that a male was armed with a baseball bat and the homeowner who was at the location did not feel safe.

Upon arrival, officers encountered a 22-year-old male who was in the street, armed with a baseball bat. Officers attempted to gain compliance from the male who was not following commands.

On four separate occasions during the incident officers attempted less than lethal force, by use of their tasers, which were all ineffective.

The 22-year-old male continued to be aggressive and threatening with the baseball bat, at which point one of the officers discharged his service weapon striking the male.

Officers administered life saving measures on scene until medics arrived. The 22-year-old male was transported to Christus Spohn Shoreline where he later succumb from his injuries.

This is an active and ongoing investigation being conducted by the Corpus Christi Police Criminal Investigation Division. Several witnesses are being interviewed at this time.

Four Corpus Christi Police Officers have been placed on paid administrative leave at this time in accordance with department practice and policy.
