New age limit for tobacco products

Effective September 1, 2019 the new legal age to purchase cigarettes, e-cigarettes or tobacco products will change to 21 years of age. It is also a violation to sell, give or cause to be sold or given to an individual under the age of 21 years of age.

A violation will be classified as a Class C Misdemeanor which includes a fine up to $500.

There is an exception to the law if you are 18 years of age and present at the time of purchase a valid military identification card of the United States military forces or the state military forces.

The Health District’s Environmental and Consumer Health Division will continue to respond to smoking complaints in food establishments and other public venues where smoking is prohibited. The new law will not affect the Health District’s processes since they respond to all smoking complaints regardless of age.
