A Message From Mike Markle,  Chief of Police
City Of Corpus Christi Police Department

As you know, On October 19th of last year, The Corpus Christi Police Department had an Officer involved shooting.  Tragically, this incident resulted in the death of one of our citizens, Mr. Dewboy Lister.  Within hours of the shooting, I invited the family of Mr. Lister, the District Attorney’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigations, along with local media, and members of our Community Coalition to view the body camera footage of this event. Being transparent while maintaining the integrity of this investigation has been and remains a priority for the Corpus Christi Police Department.

Since that time, a robust investigation has been conducted with oversight from the District Attorney’s Office.  The case was presented to a Grand Jury.  The Officer involved was no billed.   The case was reviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and it is currently being reviewed by the United States Department of Justice.

This week, the Texas Attorney General’s Office has allowed the release of video footage of this incident. Along with releasing the video to the media, I have chosen to make this available to our community through our Social Media channels.

It is my thought that releasing this type of video can be hurtful to those involved and possibly divisive to our community. It is my hope that this does not occur. Please keep all of those involved, to include their families, in our prayers.

Thank you and God Bless you.

Corpus Christi Police Chief Mike Markle
