Drunk Drivers Beware: State Pays for Extra Corpus Christi Police Officers On DWI Patrol

The Corpus Christi Police Department will participate in the Impaired Driving Mobilization (IDM) grant offered by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) which means more Corpus Christi Police Officers will be available to enforce Driving While Intoxicated offenses from December 15th, 2016 until January 1st, 2017.

TXDOT has offered the grant to reduce the number of impaired driving fatalities on Texas roadways. The grant pays for overtime for Officers so that they may focus specifically on traffic enforcement related to impaired motor vehicle operation during times when alcohol related crashes are most frequent.

Corpus Christi Police effected 1,331 arrests for intoxicated driving in 2015 after a record setting high of 1,407 arrests in 2014. The message from the Corpus Christi Police is not to operate a motor vehicle after having consumed alcoholic drinks, but has strict enforcement for those who refuse the message.
