Single Vehicle Crash Closes Crosstown Expressway, Driver Flees Crash Scene

Corpus Christi Police are investigating the 18th fatal injury as a result of a vehicle crash which happened on the 4800 block of the Crosstown Expressway Saturday night.

Corpus Christi Police responded to a single vehicle crash at 8:40pm on the Crosstown Expressway just south of the Golihar Exit. Officers learned that a blue 2005 Ford Explorer traveled from South Padre Island Drive on the ramp to travel north on the Crosstown Expressway toward downtown and lost control. The Officers discovered the vehicle rolled onto the roof and at least two people were ejected from the vehicle. Officers believe that a baby was ejected, but was relatively unharmed. The baby and a teenager were taken to Driscoll Children’s Hospital and their specific medical conditions are not know at the time of this post. An adult was transported to the Spohn Memorial Hospital with an unknown severity of injury by the time of this post. Officers found that a 13-year-old child was ejected and died at the scene. Officers also learned that three people, which include the operator of the vehicle, fled the scene prior to law enforcement arrival.

Corpus Christi Police Traffic Safety Investigators responded to investigate the crash and have a witness who claimed to know the operator of the vehicle.

All northbound lanes of the Crosstown Expressway from South Padre Island Drive to Golihar were closed to traffic while the crash scene was processed by Crash Investigators and the road was still closed by the time of this post.
